Testing Deep Borehole Disposal
Work is now underway at the Deep Borehole Demonstration Center (DBDC) in Cameron, Texas, where Deep Isolation has initiated its full-scale deep borehole demonstration program. A newly released video offers an insider’s look into the launch and early activity at the site.
Deep Isolation’s new video Deep Isolation: A Safe and Permanent Solution to Nuclear Waste captures moments from the groundbreaking event and provides context on the demonstration effort as it moves into the field. The footage highlights the extent of the operations taking place, the coordination across project partners, and the deployment of key technologies, including directional drilling and the Universal Canister System built to support a range of advanced reactor waste forms.
Designed as a non-radioactive test program, the demonstration enables hands-on observation and data collection in a real-world environment. The work underway is intended to generate practical insights into operations and inform continued discussions with regulators and stakeholders.
The DBDC serves as a dedicated location for this type of field-based evaluation, supporting efforts to better understand how disposal technologies perform outside of controlled settings.
