Testing Deep Borehole Disposal
Work is now underway at the Deep Borehole Demonstration Center (DBDC) in Cameron, Texas, where Deep Isolation has initiated its full-scale deep borehole demonstration program. A newly released video offers an insider’s look into the launch and early activity at the site.
DBDC Hosts Texas A&M Students
The Deep Borehole Demonstration Center (DBDC) welcomed a group of students from Texas A&M University who were in the area to attend the American Nuclear Society (ANS) Student Conference 2026, held April 16-18 in College Station, Texas. While the visit was not part of the official conference program, students visited the facility to learn more about ongoing work in deep borehole disposal.
The DBDC Marks 3 Year Anniversary
The Deep Borehole Demonstration Center (DBDC) is proud to celebrate three years of advancing deep borehole disposal as a safe and effective solution for radioactive waste management. As the nuclear industry continues to explore next-generation waste management strategies, we reflect on the events and partnerships that have shaped our journey.
Launch of Full-Scale Demonstration Program
The Deep Borehole Demonstration Center (DBDC) was pleased to participate in the Groundbreaking Event hosted by Deep Isolation in collaboration with Halliburton, Amentum, NAC International, and Occlusion Nuclear Solutions. The event officially launched the multi-year, full-scale, at-depth deep borehole demonstration program - the first test of its kind for the safe and permanent disposal of nuclear waste deep underground.
A Personal Note on Receiving ANS Award
Earlier this week, at the American Nuclear Society Winter Meeting in Washington, D.C., I received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Fuel Cycle and Waste Management Division in recognition of my leadership in the development and promotion of fuel cycle technologies and nuclear waste management missions in the United States.
A Turning Point for Deep Borehole Disposal
We had a great week in Vienna earlier this month at the IAEA Deep Borehole Disposal (DBD) Coordinated Research Project (CRP) annual meeting. Experts from nearly 20 countries,
